Jim McHugh has garnered many awards for his photography and is included in prominent collections such as The Museum of Modern Art, The Walker Center, the Los Angeles Museum of Art, and the National Portrait Gallery in London. He exhibits widely both nationally and internationally. Jim also won The International Photography Awards’ First Prize for Fine Art Photography, and The George Eastman House awarded him for architectural imagery of Los Angeles.
McHugh is collected and acclaimed for his large format Polaroid images of Los Angeles; powerful urban landscapes monumentalizing architecture that had become invisible and derelict. These pictures continue to be selected and exhibited by the the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs and the Los Angeles Conservancy as visual defenders
The photographer is equally renown for his ongoing artist portrait series which includes such luminaries as Ed Ruscha, John Baldessari, David Hockney, Helen Frankenthaler and Mike Kelley.
