As the year-wheel on the perpetual calendar clicks from 2024 through to 2025, it's traditional to engage in a little reflection on the year that was and project some thoughts on the year that will be. So that's exactly what the Dubai Watch Week team did. We caught up with a few key members of the team and asked about their highlights for the year just passed, as well as what they're looking forward to in 2025. Pro tip — 2025 is shaping up to be huge for DWW, with a whole new show in a brand new location slated for November.
For Production Director Drew Field, the highlight of 2024 was a trip to Hong Kong: "One of the standout moments for me this year was the successful delivery of HF.10 in Hong Kong. Beyond the event itself, which was a testament to the team's hard work and creativity, the team trip to Disneyland added an unforgettable layer to the experience. It was a moment of camaraderie, joy, and shared laughter that truly underscored the bonds we've built within the team. The combination of professional achievement and personal connection made it a highlight I'll always treasure.
Project Director Cathleen Busse echoed the excitement around another successful Horology Forum far from home: "Traveling east to meet the horology enthusiasts in Hong Kong was a standout moment for me." In particular, Cathleen (as you'd expect from someone in her role) had an eye for detail: "The "Build Your Own Brand Panel/Workshop" on stage, which was an incredible experience; it was the first time we experimented with that format. I also love all the random times you would run into someone with an exhausted smile. Despite working so hard at HF.10, everyone was so proud of the result, and it energized everyone along the way."
It's clear that HF.10 in Hong Kong was a resounding success — but what does the team think about 2025? Cathleen (like everyone in the team) has her eyes focused on November: "For 2025, I am eagerly anticipating the new space at Burj Park coming to life. With DWW being held there, it feels like we're right in the heart of the iconic Dubai postcard, surrounded by Dubai Mall, Burj Khalifa, Dubai Opera, and the Dubai Boulevard buildings. I am excited to see the reactions of the visitors and brands as we open the doors on 19th November." Cathleen also shared one surprising thing that many on the team are looking forward to — the DWW25 Powder Rooms, which she promises will be in Dubai Watch Week style.
Drew is also getting excited about the smaller things, namely snacks. "I'm particularly excited about the arrival of the new vending machine in the OC. It might seem like a small thing, but having easy access to sparkling water, chocolate bars, hula hoops, and other favourites feels like a delightful nod to team wellness and comfort. These little touches can make a big difference in the daily work experience, bringing a sense of fun and care to our environment. And I'm also always hungry." Don't worry Drew, we get it.
